At Bevois Town Primary School, we strive to provide a diverse and inspiring Art and Design curriculum that engages and challenges pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. It progressively builds children’s knowledge, skills and competencies within a range of techniques enabling them to become proficient within art; learning how to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. We believe that art and design provides children with opportunities to explore and respond to the world around them and provides important experiences which can open minds and develop a thirst for creativity and expression.
Our aims for art, reflect the aims of the National Curriculum. It is our intention to create artists who are not only inspired by great artists but their own experiences and culture. Through art, we celebrate our diverse community by exploring a variety of artists and cultures and the impact art has on society.
Art and design at Bevois Town aims to give children the confidence to experiment, explore and express themselves using a variety of different media. We provide a safe and stimulating learning environment which enables all children to take risks and build resilience. We believe our curriculum teaches our children to be observant, creative, innovative, resilient and reflective individuals. These important personal qualities, alongside the cultural capital afforded within their Art and Design learning, helps equip our children with the essential knowledge needed to be successful in the wider world.
