Today’s children are growing up in an increasingly complex world, living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. We want to equip our learners with the knowledge needed to make the best use of the internet and technology in a safe, considered and respectful way, so they are able to reap the benefits of the online world.
Our approach to teaching online safety and the harms, as with other areas of safeguarding, has been embedded within our curriculum and school culture. The school has an active Online Safety Group with wide representation from within the school. This group meets regularly throughout the year and is pivotal to ensuring that the school:
Creates a culture that incorporates the principles of online safety across all elements of school life.
Proactively engages staff, pupils and parents/carers in activities that promote the agreed principles of online safety.
Reviews and maintains the online safety principles.
Embeds the online safety principles
Models the online safety principles consistently.
The Online Safety Group consists of:
Sarah Sadler (Headteacher)
Vicki Young (Deputy Headteacher and Lead Designated Safeguarding Lead)
Lucy Davis (School Business and Premises Leader)
John Heagren (ICT Technician)
Dan Steel (Assistant Headteacher)
Emily Waters (Class Teacher and Computing Lead)
Shalini Mitchell (Governor for Safeguarding and Online Safety and Parent)
