We are very excited to announce that Bevois Town Primary now offers Forest School as part of our Curriculum Offer! With the help of a very talented governor and parent, Matt Bottley, we have transformed an unloved area of the playground into a wonderful environment for children to learn from and learn in nature. The old sandpit hut has also been converted into a sheltered area where the children can explore their findings and make observations using the huge table and microscopes - the children have named this area 'The Science Lab'.
Forest School is a child-led process that offers opportunities for development of the whole child through regular hands-on experience in a natural environment. The principles of play, choice and supported risk-taking are at its core, where children are encouraged to follow their own interests and curiosities. Activities can include building shelters, making fires, using tools, identifying plants and animals, and much more. This can help to develop their confidence, resilience, and independence, as well as their knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
Forest School sessions are led by Mrs Boussot, a trained Forest School practitioner, who provides a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and play.
At Bevois Town Primary School, we are proud to offer Forest School sessions to all our children as part of our commitment to providing a rich and varied curriculum that promotes the holistic development of each child.

On Friday 21st April 2023, Southampton's Lord Mayor, Cllr Jacqui Rayment, visited Bevois Town in order to officially open our wonderful new Forest School.
The school gathered at 11.00am for the Lord Mayor's arrival, where, wearing her finest robes, she cut a woven vine, and declared Bevois Town's Forest School "OPEN"!
