Operation Encompass

At our school, the safety and wellbeing of every child is at the heart of everything we do. We are part of Operation Encompass, a national scheme that helps schools to support children who may have been affected by domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between the police and schools.

Following a domestic incident attended by the police, the school may be informed before the next school day begins. This information is shared in confidence with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

How does this help children?

We understand that children can be affected by what happens at home, even if they are not directly involved. Being informed allows us to:

• Offer additional care and understanding when it may be needed
• Provide a calm, safe and supportive environment
• Be mindful of a child’s emotional wellbeing during the school day

What does this mean for families?

• The information we receive is handled sensitively and confidentially
• You may not always be contacted directly following a notification
• Our focus is always on supporting your child in the most appropriate and caring way

Our approach

We are committed to working closely with families and external agencies to ensure children feel safe, supported and ready to learn. All staff are trained to respond with care, compassion and professionalism.
