At Bevois Town Primary School, we are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. Racism has no place in our school or society, and we are committed to being an anti-racist school in both words and actions.
We recognise that it is not enough to simply be “non-racist”; we must be actively anti-racist. This means challenging racism whenever it occurs, addressing bias in systems and practices, and taking deliberate steps to build a culture of equality and justice. By doing so, we uphold the principle that every child and adult has the right to dignity, fairness, and respect, as set out in the Equality Act 2010.
Our HEART values underpin everything we do, and they provide the foundation for our commitment to anti-racism:
Hope
We believe in a fairer future for all. We empower children to be courageous advocates who stand up against racism and prejudice, both in their local community and in the wider world.
Equality
We treat everyone fairly, celebrate difference, and ensure that every voice is heard and respected. We teach children that equality is a basic human right, and that everyone has the right to feel safe and included.
Ambition
We challenge racism and bias in our curriculum, policies, and practices so that every learner can thrive without limits.
Resilience
We understand that creating a truly anti-racist community takes ongoing effort, honesty, and reflection. We commit to listening, learning, and improving – even when it feels uncomfortable.
Teamwork
We work together as pupils, staff, families, governors, and the wider community to promote inclusion, challenge racism, and build a culture of belonging.
Our commitment to anti-racism is not limited to a single lesson or awareness week – it is woven into daily school life. This includes:
By embedding anti-racism into all aspects of school life, we ensure that equity, dignity, and justice are at the HEART of every decision we make.
We are proud of who we are – and we know we are stronger together.
